David Hicks is the Australian we have down in Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. He was arrested in Afghanistan as an enemy combatant, and has been held without trial, as everyone else there, for the last 5 years at Gitmo. He was originally charged by a U.S. military commission, but because of the case Hamdan v. Rumsfeld, those military commissions and their decisions where declared null and void. On March 1, 2007 he was charged with material support for terrorism. These charges are controversial at best, but Hicks pleaded guilty on the 26th. Now he might get transferred back to Australia to serve out the rest of his sentence. To see a interactive replica of his cell created by Amnesty International click here. Gitmo is an insult to the American conscious and needs to be shut down.
