Al Gore Rocks This Weekend 7/7/7 With Live Earth

Al Gore’s big rock blow out on 7/7/07 is scheduled on seven different continents. It will start in Aussie Stadium, Sydney, Australia, then roll around the globe with concerts at Makuhari Messe in Tokyo, Maropeng at the Cradle of Humankind in Johannesburg, the Steps of the Oriental Pearl Tower in Shanghai, the HSH Nordbank Arena in Hamburg, London’s Wembley stadium, Giants Stadium in New York and finally, Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana beach. A special performance at the British Antarctic Survey Station in Antarctica will ensure all seven continents are included. They expect over 100 different artist performing, among those already committed are; Pharrell, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, Snoop Dogg, Lenny Kravitz, Bon Jovi, Paolo Nutini, Sheryl Crow, AFI, Melissa Etheridge, John Mayer, Damien Rice, Corinne Bailey Rae, Duran Duran, Snow Patrol, John Legend, Black Eyed Peas, Akon, Enrique Iglesias, Fall Out Boy, Maná, Keane, Kelly Clarkson, Korn, Faith Hill w/ Tim McGraw, The Police, Roger Waters, Keith Urban, The Smashing Pumpkins, Lenny Kravitz, Chris Cornell, Linkin Park, Madonna, The Beastie Boys, Genesis, Spinal Tap, Bloc Party, and many more. There is also 6,000 parties scheduled in 119 different countries around this concert. Because of one of the shows scheduled in Shanghai they expect to reach two billion people with these shows, which will make it the biggest media event ever surpassing the Live8 shows. Gore will use these shows to push people to sign a “7 Point Pledge” promising personal action in curbing global warming.
Gores 7 Point Pledge:

* Demand that my country join an international treaty within the next two years that cuts global warming pollution by 90 percent in developed countries and by more than half worldwide in time for the next generation to inherit a healthy earth.
* Take personal action to help solve the climate crises by reducing my own C02 pollution as much as I can and offsetting the rest to become “carbon neutral”.
* Fight for a moratorium on the construction of any new generating facility that burns coal without the capacity to safely trap and store the C02.
* Work for a dramatic increase in the energy efficiency of my home, workplace, school, place of worship, and means of transportation.
* Fight for laws and policies that expand the use of renewable energy sources and reduce dependence on oil and coal.
* Plant new trees and to join with others in preserving and protecting forests.
* Buy from businesses and support leaders who share my commitment to solving the climate crises and building a sustainable, just and prosperous world for the 21st century.

“Quite a few of the seven points are directly designed to put pressure on governments and on businesses, but do so by asking people around the world to help to focus that pressure,” said Gore. Both Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have announced they have signed the pledge.
Al Gore will attend the show at Giants Stadium. Profits from the shows will go towards Gore’s Alliance for Climate Protection. They have been criticized for this show including from Live Aid and Live8 organizer Bob Geldof who said, “I hope they’re a success. But why is he actually organizing them? To make us aware of the greenhouse effect? Everybody’s known about that for years. We are all fucking conscious of global warming.” Apparently Geldof doesn’t read the right wing press that says that global warming is a big hoax. Also the skeptics like to point out that the concerts themselves will use a lot of fuel to power the speakers, lights, video, and the fuel spent on getting the artists and their equipment to the venues. But co-organizer Kevin Wall points out, “We are trying to minimise the carbon as much as possible. Most artists are coming from nearby areas. Madonna, for example, lives in London and will be performing at Wembley.” He added, “There are 3,000 concerts a year. We’re doing 10, but touching 2 billion people about what I think is the biggest issue that’s ever faced humanity.” Even if you don’t like Al Gore, and even if for some reason you refuse to believe in global warming, this is going to be one hell of a concert.
