Mitt Romney Will Speak At A Tea Party Event Hosted By Charles And David Koch

The DNC have sent out an email telling supporters that Mitt Romney “will speak at a Tea Party event hosted by Charles and David Koch” today. The email calls them the “oil-industry billionaires who’ve committed to spend $200 million just to tear down the President. But the Kochs don’t really care about Romney.” The democrats claim The brothers “want to use their extreme wealth to replace President Obama with anyone on the extreme right — someone who protects the oil industry’s interests at everyone else’s expense.” Extreme right? Why would they pick Romney since he is the candidate closest to the left? The email then blames high gas prices on the Koch brothers and their ilk by saying, “given the brothers’ penchant for making millions by jacking up prices at the pump, bankrolling Tea Party extremism, and spreading lies about climate change science, we can reasonably expect the worst.” The Democrats now claim Romney is just stooge for these guys speaking on their behalf. According to the campaign ad President Obama has decreased our dependence on foreign oil. He also wants to stop the subsidies to the oil industry and thinks Romney should explain why he supports them.

GOP Weekly Address 2/25/2012

Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson (Texas) delivers the GOP weekly address this week. Just like the president they are addressing the issue of higher gas prices. According to Hutchinson, “”President Obama also noted this week that Americans are concerned by ‘the rising cost of gasoline.’ They certainly are. Gasoline prices have almost doubled in just three years — and it’s getting worse. Last February, the average cost of a gallon of unleaded was $3.17 per gallon — the highest February price ever. But this February’s average is $3.57 per gallon — and all forecasts are for prices to rocket above $4.00 per gallon during the summer driving season. Families and businesses will be devastated. President Obama’s own Energy Secretary, Steven Chu, has said, and I quote: ‘Somehow, we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.’ Well, this Administration is certainly trying their best to do that.” We could do more as Hutchinson points out, “we can do a lot more here at home to assure that we have the energy we need and to halt skyrocketing costs. But, President Obama’s policy has resulted in an unprecedented slowdown in new exploration and production of oil and gas. Offshore drilling permits are being issued at less than half the rate of the previous administration. The average number of leases issued on public lands is less than half than during President Clinton’s term. Not only will the slowdown in domestic production drive up fuel prices, it also takes away jobs from tens of thousands of oil industry workers.” Hutchinson wants, “the President to help get a bipartisan jobs bill through the Democrat-controlled Senate and for an energy policy that puts American workers and their families first.”

President Obama’s Weekly Address 2/25/2012 No Silver Bullet For High Gas Prices

President Obama addresses the rising gas prices in this weeks Weekly Address. According to the White House, “President Obama talks about how important it is to embrace an all-of-the-above approach to addressing our nation’s energy challenges.” He takes a shot at Newt Gingrich’s $2.50 a gallon proposal calling it a “bumper sticker.” “Now, some politicians always see this as a political opportunity. And since it’s an election year, they’re already dusting off their three-point plans for $2 gas. I’ll save you the suspense: Step one is drill, step two is drill, and step three is keep drilling. We hear the same thing every year,” President Obama says. “Well the American people aren’t stupid. You know that’s not a plan – especially since we’re already drilling. It’s a bumper sticker. It’s not a strategy to solve our energy challenge. It’s a strategy to get politicians through an election.” He says there is no quick fix even thought the price of gas is set by speculators who would change overnight is we opened up oil in the gulf and approved the Keystone pipeline. The President says, “you know there are no quick fixes to this problem, and you know we can’t just drill our way to lower gas prices. If we’re going to take control of our energy future and avoid these gas price spikes down the line, then we need a sustained, all-of-the-above strategy that develops every available source of American energy – oil, gas, wind, solar, nuclear, biofuels, and more. We need to keep developing the technology that allows us to use less oil in our cars and trucks; in our buildings and plants. That’s the strategy we’re pursuing, and that’s the only real solution to this challenge.” So drilling isn’t the answer but President Obama has no problem taking credit for all the new drilling going on brought on by the previous administration. “That’s why under my Administration, America is producing more oil today than at any time in the last eight years. In 2010, our dependence on foreign oil was under 50% for the first time in more than a decade.” The left usually complains drilling isn’t the answer because it takes four or five years from start to production of oil. So how can the increased production the past few years have anything to do with this administration?

Vice-President Joe Biden was speaking at Davidson County Community College in North Carolina today and almost puts a man into a deep sleep. Ironically during the speech Biden says, “Americans are tired of being tired. It’s clear that the American people have decided it’s time to get up. They’re tired of being told that we’re in a long, slow drift.” But, that is not in this clip.
