Mitt Romney Likes Being Able To Fire People

Mitt Romney was trying to explain his position on health insurance today, and instead brought up a sore subject. Romney said to a crowd, “I want individuals to have their own insurance. That means the insurance company will have an incentive to keep you healthy. It also mean that if you don’t like what they do, you could fire them. I like being able to fire people who provide services to me. You know, if someone isn’t giving the good service, I want to say, ‘I’m going to get someone else to provide this service too.” You can tell he instantly recognizes his blunder as he stumbles through his next sentence. Romney just performed the classic, “open mouth, insert foot.”

The Democratic Rapid Response Team jumped right on this one, and had a new campaign ad out about an hour later, “Mitt Romney Likes Firing People.”

The Taxman by George Harrison

Let me tell you how it will be
There’s one for you, nineteen for me
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah, I’m the taxman

Should five per cent appear too small
Be thankful I don’t take it all
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah I’m the taxman

If you drive a car, I’ll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I’ll tax your seat.
If you get too cold I’ll tax the heat,
If you take a walk, I’ll tax your feet.

Don’t ask me what I want it for
If you don’t want to pay some more
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah, I’m the taxman

Now my advice for those who die
Declare the pennies on your eyes
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah, I’m the taxman
And you’re working for no one but me.

Fred Karger Is Fed Up With The Republican Party

Fred Karger has a new campaign ad out that describes himself as “the only moderate Republican running for President. He’s pro-choice, a supporter of gay marriage and wants the US out of Afghanistan now.” “I want to let New Hampshire voters know that if they are not happy with the other seven Republicans running for President that there is one sensible, moderate candidate in the race,” said Karger. “When I first started coming to New Hampshire from California almost two years ago I started referring to myself as an Independent Republican, because that is who I am. I grew up in a very different Republican Party, and I want to help bring that Republican Party back. We need to appeal to the growing number of independent voters and work to bring younger voters into the GOP. If not, the elephant will go the way of the dinosaur.”

From the White House; “President Obama shares his New Year’s resolution: doing whatever it takes to move the economy forward and ensure that middle class families regain the security they’ve lost in the last decade.”

President Obama says we are “heading in the right direction,” and he feels the economy is doing good. Obama says we have to keep going, “Because this is a make or break moment for the middle class and all those working to get there. We’ve got to keep at it. We’ve got to keep creating jobs. And we’ve got to keep rebuilding our economy so that everyone gets a fair shot, everyone does their fair share – and everyone plays by the same rules.” He wants to level the playing field, kind of like “from each according to their abilities, to each according to their needs.”
