Ron Paul Learned Gold Is No Longer Money

Even though gold has been used as money for over 6000 years Ron Paul learned today from the Fed Chairman, Ben Bernanke, that gold is an asset. Ron Paul (R-Tx) was asking Bernanke why the injection of $5 trillion dollars did little to help main street. Paul pointed out that, “You could’ve given every single person in this country $17,000.” Instead all that cash went to bad assets to boost “the banks and big corporations.” Bernanke says the Federal Reserve has spent no money and is instead a “profit center.” He went on to explain the history of the Fed which Paul stopped by interrupting Bernanke. Paul explained, “you say it’s not spending money, well it’s money out of thin air, you put it into the market and you hold assets, and the assets aren’t, you know they are diminishing in value when you buy up bad assets.” Then he asked, “When you wake up in the morning, do you think about the price of gold.” This threw Bernanke off a bit to which he finally stated that he didn’t believe gold is money, “it’s an asset.” The only reason banks hold it is because “it’s a tradition.”

GOP Come Out With Change Directions 2

The GOP have come out with a second edition of their latest ad series ‘Change Direction 2.’ This ad features clips of President Obama’s 2008 convention speech with a stark contrast of reality. In the ad President Obama says, “you see we democrats have a very different measure of what constitutes progress in this country. We measure progress by how many people can find a job to pay the mortgage.” Then we see a shot of reality that there are 6 million more foreclosures. “Whether you can put a little extra money away at the end of the month so you can one day watch your child receive a college diploma,” contrasted with “$3.7 trillion added to the national debt and 2.1 million more unemployed.”

Bachmann Wants The Government To Go On A Diet

Michele Bachmann made an appearance on Bill O’Reilly’s Factor last night and she argued against raising the debt ceiling. Bachmann said, “The fact is we have sufficient revenue coming in to pay off the interest on the debt. We don’t have to default. We have a great bill that’s being put forward by Steve King of Iowa. It would combine paying off the interest on the debt first with paying the salaries for our brave men and women in the military. We deal with the must-haves like Social Security and Medicare, and then it’s tough love. I agree, it would be very sacrificial, but the one thing that we can’t do, Bill, is add another $2.4 trillion to the debt.” Bachmann suggested, “Government hasn’t gone on a diet. It’s private business that’s gone on a diet. It’s time to have tough love…It’s the federal government that needs to go on a diet.” The only way she would agree to raise the debt ceiling would be if they defund the health care law, ObamaCare. “They’d have to cut an enormous amount, including they would have to defund ObamaCare. Because that’s the largest entitlement in the history of the country,” according to Bachmann.

Everything is Worse Since Obama Took Over According To Rubio

Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) was on Sean Hannity to talk about the debt ceiling. During the conversation Rubio said, “The reality of it is, none of these policy prescriptions the president has written has worked. Every aspect of life in America today is worse than it was when he took over. Unemployment is higher. Interest rates. Everything is worse. The only thing that has gone down in America over the last two years is the value of your home. This president has mismanaged this economy. He has been incompetent in his management of this economy, and now to add to all of that he is offering these tax increases that are going to kill any chance we have of growing our economy and getting people back to work.”

The Government Could Learn From Drug Addicts

Washington Could Learn a Lot has released a new video which compares the governments spending problems to that of a drug addict looking for his next hit.

Washington’s chronic overspending is just like a junkie’s addiction to drugs. Unless the cycle of addiction is broken, our economic and unemployment situation will continue to suffer. Washington is out of time. To avoid hitting rock bottom, Washington must cut spending today. To spread this message, Washington Could Learn a Lot has created this video.

Washington Could Learn a Lot is a project of Public Notice Research & Education Fund (PNREF). PNREF is an independent non-profit dedicated to educating the American people about economic policy and the principles of economic freedom.

Through our education and awareness projects, PNREF will explore the future consequences of public policies being enacted today.

At least a junkie can go into rehab.
