[with Persian captions] President Obama’s special video message for all those celebrating Nowruz, or “New Day.” This year, the President wanted to send a special message to the people and government of Iran, acknowledging the strain in our relations over the last few decades. After committing his administration to a future of honest and respectful diplomacy, he addresses Iran’s leaders directly. (this video is public domain and from The White House) I really think it is neat the Persian captions look so much like English captions. This proves we really are a close people.

In his first TV interview since leaving the White House V.P. Dick Cheney claims that President Obama will make us less safe. Cheney said in his interview with CNN’s John King that President Bush was, “a great success story. It was done legally. It was done in accordance with our constitutional practices and principles. President Obama campaigned against it all across the country. And now he is making some choices that, in my mind, will, in fact, raise the risk to the American people of another attack.” Cheney then talked about Obama’s plans for Guantanamo Bay: “When you go back to the law enforcement mode, which I sense is what they’re doing – closing Guantanamo and so forth – that they are very much giving up that center of attention and focus that’s required, and that concept of a military threat that’s essential if you’re going to successfully defend the nation against further attacks.”
