Obama Is Not Sure What Memorial Day Is All About

Yesterday Barack Obama gave a Memorial Day speech to a group of New Mexico veterans and saw the dead among them. He told the group of vets, “on this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes, and I see many of them in the audience here today, our sense of patriotism is particularly strong.” Later on in speech he does acknowledge that Memorial Day is for the fallen war hero’s, but that is what happens when Obama strays from his prepared speech. He says stupid stuff and seems to get away with it. But that was not the only instance yesterday of the Obama camp being confused about what Memorial Day is all about. John McCain in an interview with AP attacked Obama’s lack of experience and knowledge of war. “He really has no experience or knowledge or judgment about the issue of Iraq and he has wanted to surrender for a long time,” McCain said of Obama. “If there was any other issue before the American people, and you hadn’t had anything to do with it in a couple of years, I think the American people would judge that very harshly.” McCain also invited Obama to join him on a trip to Iraq to help him understand the situation there. The Obama camp responded to McCain’s criticism by saying, “Senator Obama thinks Memorial Day is a day to honor our nation’s veterans, not a day for political posturing.” My guess is they have Veterans Day and Memorial Day confused.
