Hillary Clinton Brings Up Assassination

Hillary Clinton was giving an interview with South Dakota newspaper the Argus Leader and she mentioned assassination as a reason to stay in the race. She was arguing that campaigns often go on all the way into June. Clinton said “my husband didn’t wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June. We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California.” Then she added, “You know I just don’t understand it.” She doesn’t understand why everyone wants her to quit, and even calls it “unprecedented.” The blogs have already picked this one up saying she is insinuating Obama might get assassinated. The New York Post called it, “an odd comparison between the dead candidate and Barack Obama.” The Obama camp even felt as if they needed to respond to her comment saying, “Senator Clinton’s statement before the Argus Leader editorial board was unfortunate and has no place in this campaign.” Just like last week when a statement was made by President Bush that didn’t include Obama’s name. They just assumed it must be about Obama. I guess the world does turn around Barack Obama, and he is the cure all for all our ills. With all the blog noise Clinton felt she needed to apologize for the statement. At a later event she said, “earlier today, I was discussing the Democratic primary history and in the course of that discussion mentioned the campaigns that both my husband and Sen. Kennedy waged in California in June in 1992 and 1968, and I was referencing those to make the point that we have had nominating primary contests that go into June. That’s an historic fact.” She explained, “The Kennedys have been much on my mind in the last days because of Sen. [Edward] Kennedy, and I regret that if my referencing that moment of trauma for our entire nation and particularly for the Kennedy family was in any way offensive. I certainly had no intention of that whatsoever.”
