In tonights Fox debate Fred Thompson ripped into Mike Huckabee on a couple of occasions. Thompson is gasping for air, so he needs to tear down a front runner to build himself up. Thompson said this of Huckabee during the debate, “He would be a Christian leader, but he would also bring about liberal economic policies, liberal foreign policies. He believes we have an arrogant foreign policy in the tradition of blame America first. He believes that Guantanamo should be closed down and those enemy combatants brought here to the United States to find their way into the court system eventually. He believes in taxpayer-funded programs for illegals, as he did in Arkansas. He has the endorsement of the National Education Association, and the NEA said it was because of his opposition to vouchers. He said he would sign a bill that banned smoking nationwide.” ” So much for federalism. So much for states’ rights. So much for individual rights. That’s not the model of the Reagan coalition. That’s the model of the Democratic Party.” Thompson declared to loud applause. Later Thompson jabbed Huckabee on taxes saying, “I note the governor is pointing out he signed the ‘tax pledge’ (to not raise taxes). … Earlier this year he said … it would be a dangerous thing to sign a tax pledge. … Later on this year, when the pressure got building, he signed the tax pledge.”

It seems so easy for politicians to tear others down. Fred Thompson has problems of his own. Like 1. He is old. 2. He is boring. 3. He is not motivated to be President of the US.
Rush, Fred and even Hannity have had a fun time placing a spotlight on some of the small “flaws†of Huckabee’s past and turn away from all of the conservative ideals that he represents.
They are also responsible for persistently spreading mis-truths about Huckabee’s record as governor. For instance, the tax increases that took place while he was in office. There was a gas tax increase to fund roads, that was voted on by the people of Arkansas. Also, there was a court-ordered tax increase to fund schools in the state.
Hannity loves to talk about Regan, but ignores the fact that he raised taxes by $1 BILLION ($10 Billion in today’s dollars) his first year as governor of California. Huckabee’s combination of tax cuts and primarily-mandated-by-others tax increases pale in comparison to Regan’s spending. And Regan was considered to be “the ultimate conservative of this eraâ€.
Huckabee has signed the no-tax pledge. He supports the FairTax, a heavily researched, excellent plan that would stimulate the economy (as well as tax all of the current tax evaders). What more do these people want? I guess they want to overlook the true facts (even though they claim to always proclaim the truth) in favor of Huckabee bashing. Disgusting!
