Barack Obama and his wife Michelle were on ABC’s Good Morning America, and he told the Tennessee’s Republican party to “Lay off my wife.” He was responding to a question about a video the Tennessee GOP were running on the internet last week. The video plays on the comment she made campaigning in Wisconsin last February when she said, “For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country.” It was a pretty easy comment to attack. “The GOP, should I be the nominee, can say whatever they want to say about me, my track record,†Obama said on GMA. “If they think that they’re going to try to make Michelle an issue in this campaign, they should be careful because that I find unacceptable, the notion that you start attacking my wife or my family.” “Whoever is in charge of the Tennessee GOP needs to think long and hard about the kind of campaign they want to run, and I think that’s true for everybody, Democrat or Republican,†he said. Then he added, “These folks should lay off my wife.” Or else what? Obama claims Michelle “loves this country. For them to try to distort or to play snippets of her remarks in ways that are unflattering to her is, I think, just low class. I think that most of the American people would think that as well.” I wonder what most of the American people would think about her thesis project from college? This is just like the Rev. Wright stuff. The snippets say enough to get the whole picture from the person. There was no distortion is what the Tennessee GOP said. It was a quote directly from Michelle Obama. This isn’t the first time the Tennessee GOP has gotten slack for it’s treatment of Obama. Last March they were criticized for using his middle name “Hussein”. If Obama doesn’t want Michelle’s statement to become fodder for the news he should send her back to Illinois. Or he could tell her to lay off of the negative comments about our country. As long as she is speaking on his behalf, she should be fair game. There sure was no slack shown for Bill Clinton while Obama and his surrogates called him a racist. The first black president a racist? That really was a stretch, but they got away with it, and it hurt Hillary’s chances after South Carolina. That’s the kind of campaign Obama has run, so he better get used to it when it comes back at him. When you sling shit into a fan some of it comes back and hits you. Call it change or whatever you want, it is still the game of dirty politics, and that is how you get to the White House. Not with clean white gloves on.
