President Obama is on a White House sponsored bus tour modeled after a classic campaign bus tour. His first stop was in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. At this stop he said he likes the idea of calling his health care program Obamacare, and he was grateful for being out of Washington. “The costs have been going up and up and up. So part of the Affordable Care Act, health care reform, also known as Obamacare. By the way, let me tell you, I have no problem with folks saying ‘Obama cares.’ I do care,” President Obama said. He explained, â€there is nothing wrong with America that can’t be fixed. What’s broken is our politics.”
After this stop President Obama went on to Decorah, Iowa with a nice barn for a backdrop. At this stop he compared his struggles to President Lincoln. “Lincoln … they used to talk about him almost as bad as they talk about me. So democracy has never been for the faint of heart,” President Obama said. He also tried to explain that Vice-president Biden didn’t really call Tea Party members terrorist. At both stops he wanted people to know that he had “reversed the recession,….but over the last six months we’ve had a run of bad luck.” He then listed the tsunami in Japan, the Arab spring, and the debt crisis in Europe as the problems that slowed his recovery down. But most importantly “is that we’ve got the kind of partisan brinksmanship that is willing to put party ahead of country, that is more interested in seeing their political opponents lose than seeing the country win. Nowhere was that more evident than in this recent debt ceiling debacle.” So his policies are not the problem, it’s all this other stuff that is getting in the way. President Obama did say that he will be offering a better plan late September that will fix this economy. It has got to be better than his last plan that the Senate voted against 96-0.
The White House claims this is part of the Presidents official duties to tell the people about the economic issues they face. In reality it looks more like a stump speech paid for by the American tax payer. The secret service invested in 2 buses for the tour at a price of a cool million a piece all on the tax payers dime. This show fiscal responsibility by the President’s campaign team since they are planning on raising about a billion dollars for his presidential campaign. Using the tax payers money like this is saving them millions they can invest in TV time later.
