Marco Rubio Gives Foreign Policy Speech

Senator Marco Rubio gave a major foreign policy speech today at Brookings Institution. Rubio offered his opinion of Russian politics saying that President Putin “might talk tough, but he knows he is weak. Everywhere he looks, he sees threats to his rule, real and imagined. And so he uses state-owned media to preach paranoia and anti-Western sentiments to Russians.” On China he said, “we hold out hope for a new China of tomorrow, but for now we must deal with the China of today.” He added that it would be “foolish” to think that China will “defend and support global economic and political freedom or take up the cause of human rights.” He also talked about the Middle East saying, “finally, the nations in the region see Syria as a test of our continued willingness to lead in the Middle East. If we prove unwilling to provide leadership, they will conclude that we are no longer a reliable security partner, and will decide to take matters into their own hands. And that means a regional arms race, the constant threat of armed conflict, and crippling fuel prices here at home due to instability. The most powerful and influential nation in the world cannot ask smaller, more vulnerable nations to take risks while we stand on the sidelines. We have to lead because the rewards for effective leadership are so great.”

The Obama campaign team have put together another Mitt Romney versus reality ad. This time they take on Romney’s views on student loans. According to the Obama campaign, “Romney’s budget plan cuts Pell Grants and locks in higher student loan rates. His advice for students? “The best thing I can do for you is tell you to shop around.”

President Obama Calls On Students To Tell Congress #DontDoubleMyRate

President Obama spoke to a crowd of students at University of North Carolina and asked them to tweet Congress to not tell them not to raise the interest rates on student loans. The White House came up with their own hash tag for them, #DontDoubleMyRate. Mitt Romney took the air out of this campaign saying he agreed with President Obama on keeping interest rates on student loans low. “I support extending the temporary relief on interest rates for students,” Romney said. He blamed the Obama economy as the reason why he supported this because of the “extraordinarily poor conditions in the job market.”

Here is the whole speech from the University of North Carolina;

Mitt Romney Says It Is Still About The Economy And We Are Not That Stupid

Mitt Romney won all five of the states last night and spoke before a crowd in downtown Manchester, New Hampshire as the results rolled in. “To all of the thousands of good and decent Americans I’ve met who want nothing more than a better chance, a fighting chance,” Romney said. “To all of you, I have a simple message: Hold on a little longer. A better America begins tonight.” Romney told the crowd that, “four years ago Barack Obama dazzled us in front of Greek columns with sweeping promises of hope and change. But after we came down to earth, after the celebration and parades, what do we have to show for three and a half years of President Obama?” Romney asked the crowd, “Is it easier to make ends meet? Is it easier to sell your home or buy a new one? Have you saved what you needed for retirement? Are you making more in your job? Do you have a better chance to get a better job? Do you pay less at the pump?” The crowd chanted “No” to each question. Romney then said, “if the answer were “yes” to those questions, then President Obama would be running for re-election based on his achievements…and rightly so. But because he has failed, he will run a campaign of diversions, distractions, and distortions. That kind of campaign may have worked at another place and in a different time. But not here and not now. It’s still about the economy …and we’re not stupid. People are hurting in America.” Romney spoke a little about himself as well saying, “You might have heard that I was successful in business. And that rumor is true. You might not have heard that our business helped start other businesses, like Staples and Sports Authority and a new steel mill and a learning center called Bright Horizons.” Romney added, “After 25 years, I know how to lead us out of this stagnant Obama economy and into a job-creating recovery.”

Obama Will Lose If He Runs On His Record According To Marco Rubio

Senator Marco Rubio was on “Hannity” last night and the conversation turned to President Obama. “They don’t want this campaign to be about the president’s record. If this campaign is about president’s record he is going to lose, and he knows that. His is a record where everything was worse than date he was sworn in,” Rubio said. “So they don’t want it to be about economy, they don’t want it to be about his record. They’re going to want it to be about everything else. That is why they say these outrageous things. And let me say about Medicare, where we need to be consistent, at least as far as I am concerned: My mom is on Medicare. I will never support any changes to Medicare that would negatively affect her or any one like her who is currently on the program,” Rubio added. “I do believe, however, that people like me that are decades from retirement we are going to have accept that in order to keep Medicare as it stands for our parents and our grandparents, our Medicare, my generation’s Medicare is going to have to look different, especially if we want one. Is that too much to ask of our generation?” Rubio asked.
