Ron Paul And Mike Huckabee Clash Over The Iraq War

During the Republican debate Mike Huckabee explained that we broke Iraq, and now we have to buy it. He was responding to Ron Paul’s idea of immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq. “Congressman, whether or not we should have gone to Iraq is a discussion for historians, but we’re there. We bought it because we broke it,” Huckabee said. “We’ve got a responsibility to the honor of this country and the honor of every man and woman who has served in Iraq and our military to not leave them with anything less than the honor they deserve.” Ron Paul responded, “The American people didn’t go in. A few people advising this administration, a small number of people called the neoconservatives, hijacked our foreign policy. They are responsible, not the American people.” Huckabee quickly fired back, “Congressman, we are one nation. We can’t be divided. We have to be one nation under God. That means if we make a mistake, we make it as a single country.” By now the crowd was enjoying the exchange and Ron Paul shot back at Huckabee, “When we make a mistake, it is the obligation of the people, through their representatives, to correct the mistake, not continue the mistake. We have dug a hole for ourselves and we have dug a hole for our party. We are losing elections, and we are going down next year if we don’t change it.” “Even if we lose elections, we should not lose our honor,” shot back Huckabee, “and that is more important to the Republican Party.” Huckabee thinks we should continue a bad policy, because leaving and admitting it was a mistake would make us look bad.
Ron Paul is winning the post debate poll held on Fox News, but they are claiming the Ron Paul supporters are cheating by redialing. Don’t they think the other candidates supporters also have redial? Ron Paul is winning the poll because his supporters have more passion for their candidate, as opposed to the lackluster support for the other candidates. Right after the debate Fox News watchers picked John McCain as the winner, yet mostly because of his age, he is the least electable. Many felt that Rudy Giuliani leaned to much on his experience as the mayor of New York, but truthfully, that is all he has. He has to be the candidate with the least experience, yet he is the frontrunner. It is this kind of stuff that makes Ron Paul so attractive to his supporters.
