John McCain Has a Little March Madness, And Picks North Carolina

On John McCain’s websight you can match up against John McCain and pick this years winners in the NCAA basketballs March Madness. He picks Florida, Kansas, Ohio State, and North Carolina as the final four, with the Tarheels winning it all. This is the same John McCain that four years ago said gambling on college sports was wrong. It’s not really gambling though, it is more of a way to get email address’ to ask for money, but it is pretty clever. You do have to give up some information, but you might win one of John McCain’s fancy fleece jackets, a cool John McCain hat, or even a John McCain pin for your jacket. I picked Florida to go all the way and repeat. Go Gators’!!! I want a John McCain Fleece Jacket!!

Chuck Hagel Announced He Will Announce and Fred Thompson Leaves His Door Open

Chuck Hagel made his big announcement in Nebraska on Monday just as planned. Reporters flocked from everywhere to hear, and rumors of another presidential candidate were everywhere. So as all gathered around to listen, Chuck Hagel from his perch said, “I’m here today to announce my family and I will make a decision on my political future later this year.”,,,,”It will be the people of the state and nation who will determine my political future.” So the big announcement was he has a big announcement later. Hagel joins the wait and see club on the Republican ticket with Newt Gingrich and the latest entry Fred Thompson from Tennessee. Maybe the thought of raising the 100 milllion dollars that would be neccesary to run in this race, overwhelmed Hagel.
The money hasn’t scared actor/former senator Fred Thompson yet. He raised speculation that he might enter the Presidential race in the near future on Fox News Sunday in an interview with Chris Wallace. Thompson plays a D.A. on the TV show “Law and Order,” and took over Al Gore’s Senate seat when Gore left for Washington.
Thompson later left his Senate seat because “Law and Order” paid much better. Some wonder if he can bring Law and Order to Washington. Thompson seems to be closer to what the conservatives are looking for when compared to the rest of the Republican hopefuls. Thompson is pro-life and believes we should take another look at Roe V Wade, Thompson said, “I think Roe vs. Wade was bad law and bad medical science. And the way to address that is through good judges.”. He opposes gay marriages, “I think that that ought to be left up to the states. I personally do not think that that is a good idea.” He supports George Bush in Iraq, “I would do essentially what the president’s doing. I know it’s not popular right now, but I think we have to look down the road and consider the consequences of where we are.” And has said he would pardon his friend Scooter Libby, “I’d do it now. This is a trial that never would have been brought in any other part of the world. This is a miscarriage of justice.” He sounds like a great alternative to the other Republicans for the conservative bunch.
Ron Paul, who describes himself as a libertarian, has also signed on to run as a Republican. On C-Span’s Washington Journal, Paul said he was at first reluctant to run, but that “a lot of people want to hear my message and I’m willing to deliver it.” Paul has been critical of Bush’s policies in Iraq and has called for investigations in to his mishandling of the war. “I’m very confident the Republican party has gone in the wrong direction,” Paul said in his C-SPAN appearance. “We used to be the party of small government. Now we’re the party of big government.” Three very different new candidates for the Republicans to choose from. The uncertain Hagel, the Reagan conservative Thompson, and the libertarian Paul. Good luck!

New York Firefighters Say No To Giuliani And the Democrats Say No to Fox News

Rudy Giuliani leads the Republicans in most polls, but the International Association of Fire Fighters’ (IAFF) local 94 which represents New York City has released a blasting letter that says NO to Rudy Giuliani. On March 14, 2007 the IAFF will host the first bi-partisan Presidential Forum of the 2008 election cycle. They have invited all the top tear candidates from both parties to speak before the entire union via broadcasts through their websight. One candidate missing, on purpose is Rudy Giuliani. The Union explains in it’s letter, that;

Rest assured, our exclusion of Mayor Giuliani is not about any particular contractual or policy issue or disagreement, nor is it based on his unfriendly relationship with our New York City affiliates prior to 9/11 — which we will document and explain in additional correspondence later on during the campaign. In fact, we invited several candidates with whom we have had substantial disagreement on policy issues because we feel very strongly that our members have the right to hear from all candidates, not just those who tow the IAFF line.

Regrettably, the situation with former Mayor Giuliani is very different. His actions post 9/11 rise to such an offensive and personal attack on our brother and sisterhood — and directly on our union — that the IAFF does not feel Rudy Giuliani deserves an audience of IAFF leaders and members at our own Presidential Forum.

The disrespect that he exhibited to our 343 fallen FDNY brothers, their families and our New York City IAFF leadership in the wake of that tragic day has not been forgiven or forgotten.

The IAFF says that Giuliani cut the number of firefighters allowed to look for their fallen brothers and sisters at ground zero from 300 to 25 early in November to start a “scoop and dump” program, which meant the bodies of those who perished would be carted off like garbage and deposited in the landfills. The IAFF complained about this back then but Giuliani said they were “acting like babies.” So becasue of this the IAFF not only says “No”, but “Hell No.” Giuliani was accused of being more interested in finding the gold that was lost than the bodies of fallen hero’s. Giuliani’s campagin has reponded with a sole retired member of IAFF local 94, Lee Ielpi, who says the letter is playing partisan politics. Ielpi goes on to say in iterviews on Fox and CNN that the Union is left leaning and was an early supporter of John Kerry in the 04 elections. Actually the IAFF endorsed George W. Bush in 04, but Tony Snow of CNN or Bret Hume of Fox didn’t bothered to follow up to see if it was true and reported it as fact anyway. How reliable can Ielpi be if he starts right from the gate with a lie?

The Democrats have decided to pull out of the debate in Reno that was co-sponsered by Fox News. It started with left wing bloggers, and groups. Then John Edwards pulled out. On Thursday Roger Ailes, president of Fox News, spoke at the Radio & Television News Directors Association Foundation event in Washington and compared Obama to Osama bin Laden by saying, “And it is true that Barack Obama is on the move. I don’t know if it’s true that President Bush called (Pakistani President Pervez) Musharraf and said, ‘Why can’t we catch this guy?” That was the last straw for the Nevada Democrats, and they announced they would pull out of the Fox News debate saying, “We cannot, as good Democrats, put our party in a position to defend such comments.” Politico.com also refused to participate, as well as Air America, calling the terms not so fair or balanced. Fox News would have used this opportunity to malign the candidates and what they stand for. Here is an example of Fox News “fair and balanced.” reporting on Democrat Barack Obama in this Greenwald’s bravenewfilms film. When is the Air America Republican debate?

Gingrich Had an Affair The Same Time Bill Clinton Did

Newt Gingrich was on James Dobson’s Focus on the Family where he was discussing his book, Rediscovering God in America: Reflections on the Role of Faith in America’s History and Future, and was asked if he had an affair. Gingrich said yes, “There are times that I have fallen short of my own standards. There’s certainly times when I’ve fallen short of God’s standards.” The irony of this is it was during the same time that Gingrich was leading the charge against Bill Clinton and his affair with Monica Lewinsky. Newt said his cheating was different because, “The president of the United States got in trouble for committing a felony in front of a sitting federal judge.” Meaning Bill lied about getting a blow job, which really was none of our business anyway. That was between him, Hillary, and Monica, not all the rest of us. The rumors of Gingrich’s affair have been around for a while, but he has refused to discuss it. It’s a private thing, kinda like blow jobs. Gingrich divorced his second wife after his attorneys admitted a relationship with one of his congressional aides 20 years younger than him, his current wife.
I wonder if the Southern Baptist will like this, another family values conservative with a closet full of skeletons.

Chuck Hagel May Announce He Is In On Monday VIDEO

Chuck Hagel has announced he will hold a news conference on Monday to talk about his future plans. This has brought up all kinds of speculation, but the best bet is he will announce that he is in as a Republican for 08. Hagel is a Vietnam war veteran, and a two-term Nebraska senator. He has also been very vocal against President Bush and the war in Iraq. Hegal called Iraq, “the most dangerous foreign policy blunder in this country since Vietnam.” This caused Dick Cheney to say in a Newsweek interview, “Let’s say I believe firmly in Ronald Reagan’s 11th commandment: Thou shalt not speak ill of a fellow Republican,” …. “But it’s very hard sometimes to adhere to that where Chuck Hagel is involved.” Hagel is not the candidate the conservatives have been looking for, but he is a Republican that Democrats could vote for. Some have speculated he might even run as an independent. A major stumbling block for Hagel will be money. He has policies, but no money or organization. Check out this eight minute video of Hagel and his honesty on the Senate floor talking about the non-binding resolution and Iraq on January 24, 07. These are some of the comments that pissed off Dick Cheney. I welcome Chuck Hagel into the fray.

Edwards Bows Out of Debate Co-Hosted by Fox News

John Edwards has decided to bow out of the August 14th debate in Reno that is co-hosted by Fox News. According to Edwards campaign, “There were a number of factors and Fox was one of those. We’re already planning to participate in a jam-packed schedule of debates across this country … we can’t attend every single debate and forum.” This debate has been under attack for a while because of Fox News’ participation. In an article in The Daily Kos grassroot democrats, the Carson City Democratic Central Committee passed a resolution Opposing the Fox Presidential Debate;

March 7, 2007

WHEREAS, Fox News is not a neutral source of news – it’s a right-wing mouthpiece like Rush Limbaugh that smears Democrats and spreads blatantly false information; and

WHEREAS, Democrats granting Fox News the illusion of credibility would allow Fox to more easily “swiftboat” our 2008 candidates by pushing false Republican attacks into the mainstream media; and

WHEREAS, everyone supports reaching out to new people, but 1 day of Fox coverage is not worth legitimizing Fox’s misinformation the other 364 days a year; and

WHEREAS, plenty of better alternatives exist to Fox News – in Nevada, MSNBC plus its NBC affiliates, for example, get approximately double the viewers of Fox cable plus its local affiliates; and

WHEREAS, we believe that Democrats need to fight back against Fox News and the right-wing smear machine in the 2008 election cycle—not enable it.

BE IT RESOLVED, the Carson City Democratic Central Committee opposes the proposal to let Fox News host a Democratic presidential debate and strongly urges the Nevada Democratic Party to drop that proposal

None of the other candidates have bowed out of this yet, and Bill Richardson has alread signed on. Moveon.org has claimed they have collected 260,000 signatures on a petition that calls the cable network a “mouthpiece for the Republican Party, not a legitimate news channel.” I would call Edwards move a brave one. How many of the Republicans would debate at a forum hosted by Air America? Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., who originally hailed the partnership has asked the Nevada Democrats to take another look at it. Fox News has responded by saying, “it is unfortunate that Sen. Edwards has decided to abandon an opportunity to reach the largest mainstream cable news audience in America.” Being the largest and most popular doesn’t make you right. The truth is hard to watch sometimes, and Fox News’ popularity is a testament to that.

Baptist Say Giuliani Had a Divorce on Steroids And The Conservatives Dirty Little Sanchez

A spokesman for the Southern Baptist said that it would be hard to vote for Giuliani. Richard Land, head of public policy for the Southern Baptist Convention said that voters can tolerate a divorced candidate, but one divorced three times is hard. Land said that Giuliani’s divorce from his second wife was, “divorce on steroids.” Land went on to say, “To publicly humiliate your wife in that way, and your children. That’s rough. I think that’s going to be an awfully hard sell, even if he weren’t pro-choice and pro-gun control.” Giuliani’s campaign had no comment at this time. Land was also asked about McCain’s two marriages, but he said, “It’s a molehill compared to Giuliani’s mountain,” Land said. “When you’re a war hero (like McCain), you have less to prove on the character front.” If Land’s reflects the feelings of other Southern Baptist this could be bad news for Giuliani. Giuliani leads in all the polls. The Southern Baptist are a vocal bunch in the conservative movement that Giuliani is already having trouble with because of his beliefs on social issues. He may be a front runner now, but the true candidate is somewhere in the middle of the pack still. Giuliani has to many negatives, and there are to many videos out there. The conservatives are not excited about any of these folks so far, and the biggest news out of CPAC was Ann Coulter’s foul mouth. Newt Gingrich, who hasn’t even announced yet, got the biggest applause, but he has electability issues. That leaves only Sam Brownback and Duncan Hunter for the true conservatives.
Also on CPAC, Ann Coulter poised for a photograph with one of the right’s newest darlings, Cpl. Matt Sanchez, a USMC reservist. Sanchez recruits for the Marines at Columbia University, which he attends, and has faced harrassment from leftie anti-war hippies, and other students. The right has jumped on his side. He has been on The O’Reilly Factor and Hannity & Colmes, where he was praised for complaining about these students. Here is where it gets good: Before entering the Marines and his Ivy league Schooling, Sanchez was a gay porn star under the name Rod Majors, where he starred in such film classics; Jawbreaker, Glory Holes of Fame 3, Donkey Dick, Patriot Ass, Forever Hold Your Piece 2, Butt Crack Mountain, Tiajuana Toilet Tramps, and many others. You just can’t make this shit up.. Ann, Can you say Dirty Sanchez?
