Barack Obama’s Team May Have Caused Stephen Colbert To Cry

Last week Stephen Colbert’s attempt to run for the President was stopped by the South Carolina Democratic Executive Council who voted 13 – 3 to keep Colbert off of the presidential primary ballot. Colbert claims now he has to mourn this decision and will have to take a break from his show on Comedy Central. Conveniently the Writers Guild of America is striking, so his show would be in reruns anyway. According to Colbert, “I am shocked and saddened by the South Carolina Democratic Executive Council’s 13-to-3 vote to keep me off their presidential primary ballot. Although I lost by the slimmest margin in presidential election history — only ten votes — I have chosen not to put the country through another agonizing Supreme Court battle. It is time for this nation to heal. I want say to my supporters, this is not over. While I may accept the decision of the Council, the fight goes on! The dream endures! …And I am going off the air until I can talk about this without weeping.” There is some speculation now that people from Barack Obama’s campaign leaned on some of the members of the South Carolina Democratic Executive Council to keep Colbert off of the ballot. One member of the council said that Inez Tenenbaum, who is a high profile supporter of Obama, “pressured” them to keep Colbert off the ballot. “She said it wouldn’t be fair to the other candidates. That he [Colbert] wouldn’t be sincere. That he was only running in one state,” said the executive council official. State Rep. Bakari Sellers, another major South Carolina Obama supporter, admitted he made phone calls to council members. “I placed the calls as a concerned Democrat, realizing that we are a country in despair,” Sellers told CNN. “It is not a time for games or to make a mockery of the process.” Obama’s campaign denies any connection to the phone calls, and Tenenbaum says it was all about the money. The state Democratic party would have to pay $20,000 to put his name on the ballot. Was Obama’s team afraid they could lose votes to Colbert? John Edwards team took a different stand and actually welcomed Colbert’s entry into the race with political attacks. As soon as the Writers Guild Strike ends we should hear more about this important story.

One Of Fred Thompson’s Advisers Is A Major Drug Dealer

One of Fred Thompson’s advisers, Philip Martin, a businessman who serves as a co-chairman of Thompson’s campaign has a conviction record including major drug sales. In 1979 Martin pleaded guilty to selling 11 pounds of marijuana, and the court withheld judgment pending completion of his probation. Thompson stands by his adviser even though he claims he was unaware of the past convictions. On ‘Meet The Press’ Thompson had this to say about Martin, “I wish I had known about it a little earlier. Phil I’m sure knows that he should have told me about this, but he thought it was over and done with and forgotten about I’m sure. But of course nothing is ever over and done with and forgotten about in this business.” Maybe the pot charges could be forgiven, but that wasn’t all for Martin. While on probation in 1983, he was charged with violation of probation because he was caught trying to sell $30,000 worth of cocaine. Along with those charges came multiple counts of felony bookmaking, cocaine trafficking and conspiracy. Really hard to sweep that under the carpet. “I know him to be a good man,” Thompson said on Sunday. “I know him to be a man who has rehabilitated himself and led a productive life. He’s my friend. He’s gonna remain my friend.” Thompson may keep him on the campaign though, and wants talk about it first. “You know, what I do about it after I talk to him with regard to the future we’ll just have to see, sit down and work out, and do the right thing to a fellow who is a friend., but who is now on the front page of the Washington Post.” Martin has managed to stay out of jail for crimes that would put most of us behind bars for years, and now Thompson thinks he deserves some type of forgiveness. Maybe a second chance, I mean a third chance. The sad part is Martin is probably a successful businessman who has taken a part of his criminal past to do so. It wouldn’t surprise me if he keeps Martin on his staff, the Republicans elected a former drunken coke head to be President for last 7 years. And they call themselves the party of family values.

John Edwards Says Democrats Need To Show A Little Backbone

John Edwards released his first T.V. ad for Iowa titled ‘Heroes’, where he calls on the Democrats to stand up for the working people. In the ad Edwards says, “It is time for our party, the Democratic Party, to show a little backbone, to have a little guts, to stand up for working men and women. If we are not their voice, they will never have a voice.” In his ad he points to a different type of hero, a waitress, a mother, a nurse, farmers and others. “If you’re looking for heroes, don’t look to me. Don’t look to Elizabeth. We have support. We have health care. We have the American people behind us,” Edwards says. “Look to them. They are the ones who we speak for. They are the ones that we stand up for.” This is Edwards first T.V. ad in Iowa, but he has crossed the state pressing the flesh. Edwards has visited all 99 counties in Iowa.

Ron Paul Wins Presidential Idol While Two Democrats Get The Boot

October is over, and two candidates have been voted off of Presidential Idol. Ron Paul received the most votes for the month of October and came in first with a strong showing of 51.8%. This is the seventh straight month that Ron Paul has won in the vote count, and he consistently gets about half of the vote. Coming in second with 12.1% of the vote was Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton’s support has been growing in the past three months. The candidate coming in the third was Mike Huckabee with 10.4%. In this poll that has no money involved Huckabee consistently stays in the top three. Mitt Romney’s money can buy no influence on this poll. For the first time two candidates will get voted off of Presidential Idol. Two Democrats, Bill Richardson and Joe Biden tied with less than 1% of the vote, and will both be booted off of Presidential Idol. All the candidates on Presidential Idol are starting from zero again, so we can vote another candidate off at the end of November. We are down to 12 candidates, and November 2008 we will pick from that group the first Presidential Idol. You can vote once a day for any candidate on the list. The one with the least votes on November 30 is voted off, and we start again with 11. So come by and vote for your favorite candidate at Presidential Idol. It’s free and it’s fun. Thanks.

Mitt Romney Gives Us A Tour Of Hillary’s House Of Horrors

Speaking to a crowd in Florida Mitt Romney gave a verbal tour of “Hillary’s House of Horrors.” “You go in one room, she wants to raise your taxes. You go in another room and she wants to have government taking over health care,” Romney said to laughter and applause. “You go in the next room and she’s weakened homeland security by voting against the authority of our government to listen in to al-Qaida’s calls.” Romney said he would keep Clinton out of the White House by by building of the conservative foundation that Ronald Reagan built. He also bragged about working across the aisle when he was the governor of Massachusetts. “We had to agree to solve things together,” Romney said. “I will not make it a personal, rancorous battle.” A Clinton spokesperson responded saying, “Given Governor Romney’s long history of flip floppping on issues, we’re not worried. We expect him to endorse us any day.”

October 28 Is Stephen Colbert Day In South Carolina

Steve Colbert takes his campaign to South Carolina where the mayor of Columbia gave him a key to the city, and called him a “favorite son.” Colbert told a crowd at the University of South Carolina that, “I love South Carolina almost as much as South Carolina loves me.” Colbert is trying to get on the both the Democratic and Republican ballots for South Carolina. Colbert said, “I am here not only to accept the honor you have given me but to prove to everyone that this campaign is real. To put an end to the vicious rumors that this is not a serious candidacy.” He talked about the great peaches that are grown in South Carolina, and said, “Over the past 18 hours, this campaign has gone everywhere in this state, from Charleston to Columbia.” He even has a campaign phrase just for his South Carolina campaign. “In the 19th century, South Carolina was the first to secede,” he said. “In the 21st we will the first to succeed. First to secede. First to succeed. I own the copyright on that phrase, if you use it you must pay me a royalty.” The mayor of Columbia even went so far as to call October 28th “Stephen Colbert Day.” Colbert has also endorsed another South Carolinian for President, John Edwards. The Edwards camp says until Colbert wins the primary he can’t really be called the “favorite son.” They then complained about Colbert’s ties to the snack food industry because Colbert claims Doritos will sponsor his campaign. Edwards spokesperson Teresa Wells said, “What is more troubling than his quest for a status his own mother won’t grant him (favorite son) are his ties to the salty food industry. As the candidate of Doritos, his hands are stained by corporate corruption and nacho cheese. John Edwards has never taken a dime from taco chip lobbyists and America deserves a President who isn’t in the pocket of the snack food special interests.” When he goes in Vermont he can get sponsored by Ben and Jerry’s since his ice cream is such a big seller.

John Edwards Has Problem With Free Speech

John Edwards campaign has complained about a college student reporter’s story on the location of Edwards campaign headquarters. Second year master student Carla Babb did a story which questioned Edward’s campaign headquarters being in the Chapel Hill which is also the location of the University of North Carolina. She thought it was unwise to have it there, since he speaks so much about poverty, and Chapel Hill is a affluent area. The campaign first contacted Babb and asked her to pull the story but she refused. They then went higher and complained to her professor. Charlie Tuggle, an associate professor at the school said they have called him at least three times and asked him to stop the story, saying it misrepresents Edwards. I think Babb’s should get an A for the story. All the Edward’s campaign can say about the whole deal is they think it is “silly.”

Hillary Has Million Dollar Birthday Bash

Hillary Clinton had her 60th birthday yesterday and threw a big blow out to celebrate. Billy Crystal was the headliner at the party which was held at the Beacon Theater in New York City. Also at the event was rock acts The Wallflowers and Elvis Costello. Bill Clinton introduced his wife by saying, “she still looks very beautiful.” I am sure he says that to all the girls though. Hillary then showed up saying, “I feel very blessed, especially tonight, to be here with my family…and all of you, who I consider a big extended family.” She also took a swipe at Rudy Giuliani who earlier in the week said he supports the Boston Red Sox, even though he claims to be a big Yankees fan. “I have been a fan, and I remain a fan of the New York Yankees,” Clinton said to cheers. “No changes, no looking to curry favor with anyone else.” Clinton raised 1.5 million at the event with tickets ranging from the maximum $2300 to $100 for seats in the nose bleed sections. The Republicans even noted it was Clinton’s birthday when GOP spokesman said, “Hillary Clinton has a long wish list for her birthday, from Washington-controlled retirement plans and government-run health care to tax increases left and right, and all the while the American taxpayers are only wishing they won’t have to pay for her $750 billion in additional spending.”

Alan Keyes Excluded From Fox GOP Debate On Sunday

Republican candidate Alan Keyes will not be allowed to attend this Sundays Fox Republican debate. He has already participated in two debates including the Values Voter Debate in Fort Lauderdale only three days after entering the race. The Florida party said all the participants must have a 1% or better showing in the polls, but Keyes was not in any of the six polls they used. If he had been included most agree he would have polled better than the 1% required. During the 2000 GOP presidential primary he got about 5% of the Republican vote in Florida. Also national polls that do include Keyes have him about 2% after only two weeks in the race. This is even more than some candidates that have been in much longer, and have been invited to the debate. During a radio interview Keyes said this about being excluded, “Rather than thinking about what they should be doing to make sure that voters are informed and able to get a clear idea of the choices available to them, [some party officials] are doing their best, I think, to make sure that articulation of the kind of conservatism that corresponds to what is on the heart and mind of most grassroots Republicans is not there.” Keyes later asked, “Why such an effort to assure that the so-called top-tier candidates don’t have to face me? Do they fear me because they’re not good enough for the job that needs to be done, or because they don’t represent the conscience and heart of the Republican Party or of the American people?” The top tier candidates do seem to fear him somewhat since they skipped the only two debates he has participated in. If you would like to contact the Florida officials responsible for excluding Keyes contact the Florida Republican Party and Chairman Jim Greer at 850-222-7920, send a fax to 850-681-2063, or email the party using the form at The Republican Party of Florida.
